What’s been happening:

I now serve as Pro Vice Chancellor Planning and Development at the multicampus University of the West Indies. I live in Trinidad where I served for six years as Principal of the University campus there. I have written three books one on VS Naipaul, one on Higher Education Governance (with Denis Gayle and Quinton White)and another (with Roger Hosein) on Trade, Investment and Development in the Caribbean. I also guest edited a 2002 offering of Caribbean Quarterly to commemorate the Nobel Prize award to VS Naipaul. My wife Kamla who taught high school French and Spanish for many years took early retirement and is fully engaged in the community and with our two grandchildren, Amartya and Dhiren. My son Nirad who came to State College as a baby is now the CEO of a small organization in Trinidad and my daughter Shanta who was born in State College is a lawyer in New York. I have been involved in politics and served as a parliamentarian and Minister of Industry. Penn State and all the wonderful people that we met have made for glorious memories and I have lived an eventful and blessed life since. I have had a varied career and a generous share of ups and downs but I continue to live with passion and though introspective and, perhaps, meditative,I am still driven by optimism and hope that the world will become a better place and that humanity will evolve to to a higher plane.
